Principal's Message
Welcome to Victoria!
Something I have always loved about education is the fresh sense of renewal that accompanies the start of each new school year. As the new school year kicks off our teachers and staff have renewed their commitment to work diligently to provide all students with a challenging, relevant educational program. On behalf of our entire staff, welcome back to what will undoubtedly be a great school year.
At Victoria Elementary we are very proud of the world-class education we provide our students. Our strong academic program, enrichment programs, and a focus on the social and emotional development of our students encompass the five C’s of 21st Century Skills: Communication, Collaboration, Critical thinking, Creativity, and Character. We believe these essential skills will provide our students with the tools to succeed in middle school, high school and beyond. We continue to challenge and foster the five C’s through our comprehensive core programs, Wonders ELA and Bridges mathematics, and our responsive teaching practices. Through its connected pathways, intentional instruction, and inspiring content, Wonders prepares all students for college and career in the 21st century. Bridges in Mathematics is a comprehensive K-5 curriculum that focuses on developing students’ deep understanding of mathematical concepts, proficiency with key skills, and ability to solve complex and novel problems. Bridges blends instruction, structured investigation, and open exploration through material that is as linguistically, visually, and kinesthetically rich as it is mathematically powerful. At Victoria we will also address social and emotional learning (SEL) of our students. Social-emotional learning refers to wide range of non-academic competences such as self-perception, self-regulation, self-esteem, motivation, and resilience and coping strategies. I am confident that our students will be challenged and engaged to become the critical thinkers, problem solvers, and compassionate human beings that will enable them to be college and career ready.
The staff at Victoria has a well-developed belief system that drives everything we do. Developmentally, we are committed to the idea that the elementary school years are the most important years of our student’s lives, not only academically but their social and emotional development and growth. We hold ourselves accountable to an elevated standard of instruction, and we hold our students equally accountable to high academic and behavioral standards. Believing that a safe, caring and secure environment is a prerequisite to effective instruction and learning, we strive to provide a stable, yet flexible atmosphere that will meet the changing needs of our students. We believe that an effective partnership between school and home is essential to the success of our children.
Our commitment to honor the traditions of the past and chart the future at Victoria remains a top priority. We look forward to working with you as a school community to maintain the highest levels of student achievement, campus pride and customer service. Welcome to what is sure to be a great school year!
